Self Promotion, a Hard Row to Hoe

Some of you may know that I published a book of poetry recently ( http://hellopoetry.com/book/a-garage-sale-from-my-brain/ ) With that, I find myself in the position of talking about myself an awful lot lately.  As an artist, I would sit in my studio in downtown Lincoln and hide from potental customers rather than sell off my babies, and I am really not that good with adults in the first place.  That venture did not last long, as I found that I just did not have a head for business where my art was concerned. I moved on with teaching and eventually discovered that I am a fine toy maker and did quite well til disater struck (another story). Now in a virtual print world I find myself forced into self promotion to make an economic go of what is really not an economically sound propostion.  The world is set up for corporations and for those that are technically savy, not for those of use whose skills run to the archaic.  It is frustrating to be an artist in todays world, but at the same time its pretty cool.

Though I complain about the book process and having to tout it all over the web, the thing is there.  I created a book!  And it didn’t cost me anything monetarily (might take a few years off my life, but those are probably the drooling years anyway, so who cares).  Here on Redgage an artist is allowed the freedom to write, promote and show work that might otherwise languish in our already overcrowded brains and lives.  Still, I get tired of talking and writing about my self in the the third person little blurb way.  Sum up your work in three sentences…..right.
